How To Maintain Your Car Engine? | Chola MS

A car is a complex machine in which various components work together for it to run smoothly. There is no doubt that an engine to a car is what a heart is to a human body. Without an engine, it is impossible for the car to do the things that make it a car.

It is very important that you pay attention to the condition of your car’s engine and ensure that it is getting all the care it needs to run efficiently. Most of the time we don’t think twice about the engine’s condition and the only time it crosses our minds is when we hear some kind of noise coming from the hood and by then it is too late. Here are a few tips to help you maintain your car’s engine-

1.   Let it breathe

Just like our body, the engine needs to breathe to keep running smoothly. Constricted airflow can damage the engine as it causes the fuel to not burn fully, therefore, increasing the emissions and decreasing the car’s mileage. Check the air filters once in a while and clean it if too much dust and debris have accumulated.

2.   Change Engine’s oil

Oil is the substance that keeps the other components of the engine lubricated. If such components are not well lubricated then the engine works at a sub-optimal level, causing a lot of wear and tear. It is imperative that you check your oil levels and fill them if need be. You should also check on the oil filter and clean them at regular intervals.

3.   Fill up the fuel

You shouldn’t run your car on the red lines of your fuel meter for a long time. Petrol contains sediments that settle at the bottom of the tank and running your car on the last line causes these sediments to enter your engine. This can cause a lot of damage to your engine which can be very expensive to repair.

4.   Replace spark plugs and wires

The wires send an electrical current to the spark plug which then sparks to ignite the fuel and air mixture in the cylinders that cause the engine to start running. If you fail to replace these it can cause your engine to run roughly. Spark plugs and wires are not that costly and should be changed when roughly around the 50,000 kilometres mark.

5.   Cooling system

A running engine produces a lot of heat and such levels of heat can cause damage to the other components as well as the engine itself. Therefore, it is necessary that the condition of your cooling system is up to date. The components of the system are- Radiator, Water pump, Thermostat, and Coolant. The best way to ensure that the cooling system is working properly is to ensure that there is enough coolant, that is- radiator fluid, circulating in the system. You should make sure that the fluid is above the minimum mark.

It is extremely important to take care of the engine because the damages caused by a faulty or neglected engine can be huge. Repairing such damages can be very expensive. All you need to do is to take some time out to check on the condition of the engine and ensure that it is in proper condition. This can go a long way and help you save on unnecessary expenses. A healthy engine is the key to a healthy car that gives you happy miles on the road !
