The Cholamandalam MS Marine Inland Transit policies are designed to provide suitable coverage and offer adequate indemnity for cargo / goods carried through various modes of transport and transit.

The Cholamandalam MS Inland Transit Policy covers the insured cargo against total loss / partial loss / and related expenses whilst the goods are in Inland Transit.

  • Most of the marine policies are agreed value policies
  • An element of profit can also be included in the sum insured which is allowed by the insurers. This is referred to as mark up in Marine Insurance parlance
  • Marine policies are transit / voyage policies and not limited to any specific period

Types of Policies

  • Specific Policy - The policy issued for a specified transit. The coverage under the policy will cease on completion of the transit contemplated
  • Open Policy - This is a policy intended to cover Inland movement of consignments for specified period of time which is usually one year. This policy is suitable for insured with numerous transactions throughout the year. The availability of the open policy facilitates the insured in having automatic and continuous cover and the insured is free to declare the consignment movement subject to the terms and conditions of the policy. The open policy is issued with an initial sum insured which can be enhanced at policy rate any time during the currency of the policy

Profile of MR. S S GOPALARATHNAM

Mr. S S Gopalarathnam is Managing Director of Cholamandalam MS General Insurance Company Limited (Chola MS).

He joined the Murugappa Group in 1979 as a Management Trainee and has been with the group for the past 30 years. Mr. Gopalarathnam has been with Chola MS as Chief Financial Officer since its inception, became President Operations in 2006 and took over as Managing Director & CEO from April 2008.

A graduate of commerce and a qualified FICWA from the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India, he has extensive training in areas such as Strategy / Finance / Leadership. He was also recently trained in an Advanced Management Program at Harvard University, USA.

He was an active member of IRDA\'s Working Group responsible for revamping Investment Regulations in India, and a member of the Committee to revamp Motor Pool in India.

A knowledge powerhouse, Gopalarathnam is an avid reader of literature on management with special interest in Strategy as a theme.

Winning the award among 68 entries by insurers from within the Asia - Pacific region, for innovation in mobile management, Cholamandalam MS was commended for adopting the mobile computing technology for its claims surveys process.

In the award citation, Cholamandalam MS's vehicle surveyor application was said to utilize voice, camera and data connectivity capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy Tablet to capture and store auto survey data in one database - which reduced turnaround time in the claims process, increased productivity of surveyors, and improved fraud prevention.
